Postnatal

Pelvic Health check

What is the Postnatal pelvic health check up?

The postnatal pelvic health check is for women from 6 weeks after a vaginal delivery or 8 weeks

after a caesarean section birth onwards. Babies are welcome!

This personalised one-hour session with a specialised Women’s Health Physiotherapist is

designed to answer your postnatal questions and concerns.

During your appointment we cover:

- Back and pelvis: We review your strength and stability and provide specific exercises to

improve. If you have any postnatal low back pain or pelvic girdle pain we can assess and treat

this appropriately. Time to address any of those niggling pains!

- Bellies – a check for abdominal separation (diastasis), C-section scar mobility with specific

advice on strengthening your core.

- Boobs – if you’re having issues with blocked ducts, upper back pain or have breast support

questions.

- Pelvic floor – leaking after a baby is not a normal part of becoming a parent! Learn how to

activate your pelvic floor to restore your strength. Sometimes the pelvic floor muscles can hold

too much tension, which also means they cant work effectively. There is an option for an internal

examination, which allows greater specificity of diagnosis and exercise prescription.

- Bladder care – maybe you’ve noticed your bladder isn’t the same as it used to be?

- Bowel care – having a regular, easy bowel motion is the foundation of a happy pelvis!

- Sex – helping sex be pain free and enjoyable.

- Exercise – getting you back to where you want to be – or even better!

A thorough history will be taken, listening to any concerns you may have. We can

orientate the physical examination to your specific concerns or provide a full screen

of the above areas. Maybe you’re seeking a sign-off to get back running again, or

perhaps things aren’t feeling the same down below and you are worried you might

have a prolapse.

The postnatal check is often a one-off appointment. However if we find an issue that

requires further treatment we can offer Women’s Health Physiotherapist appointments in both

Cromwell and Queenstown and specialist Osteopathy appointments in Cromwell.

At One Body Wellness we are more than happy to make referrals on to great healthcare

providers in our region. In Cromwell, we offer specialised Pilates classes – a great

way to get back to where you want to be and enjoy the body you’re living in.
